We provide software components for the telephony industry aiming for speech enhancement in communications. One of these components addresses specifically the improvement of speech intelligibility and is thus highly related to perceptual aspects. Depending on the applicant’s main interests, this internship can cover different aspects of speech intelligibility enhancement. One aspect is the improvement of NXP’s current auditory masking model, based on literature review. Another aspect concerns the perceptual optimization of NXP’s solution by means of psychoacoustic experiments to be designed specifically. A third aspect is to identify and implement promising speech intelligibility enhancement approaches from the literature, or even propose new ones.

This internship is an opportunity to learn speech processing, psychoacoustics and software development in an industrial environment. It can potentially lead to direct employment or a Ph.D. thesis in signal/speech processing.
